Alexandra and Tony’s wedding celebration in Eugene Oregom was a beautiful event. There were so many aspects to this wedding and such a fusion of culture and traditions that we felt that it would be best to let Alexandra describe it in her own words:

Tony & I were lucky enough to have family and friends from all over the world come to be with us for our wedding day. My dad’s identical twin, Nigel, and his family (wife Jennie, oldest son James and his wife Hayley, and other son Simon) came from England, My bridesmaid (Rachel) came from Japan, and we had other friends from all over the country, including Washington DC, Georgia, Ohio, Utah, Idaho, California, Washington state (Seattle), Colorado and Montana. My mom’s family is from Southern Oregon and Tony’s family is all from Portland. Since Tony and I both went to University of Portland, we had a LOT of people come down from Portland. We were so touched by the effort made by those we love and care about.

The dance was very special to my family and me. My sister and I have danced ever since we were little girls (starting with ballet and tap when we were just barely old enough to walk:). For the past 10 years we have been involved with a Ukrainian dance troup, “Veselka”. The dance was very special because it was danced by 3 of my bridesmaids, who I have also danced with for the past 10 years. We have danced at different events together…. charity benefits, celebrations, weddings, festivals, etc. So now we are dancing at each other’s weddings, instead of people we don’t know 🙂

Anyway, the dance was basically choreographed by the 4 of us….Christine, Erin and I danced it at Lisa’s wedding last year and this year Lisa and I switched places, so she danced and I was the bride!! So it is even more meaningful because it has become a sort of tradition amongst the 4 of us to dance at each other’s weddings as a beautiful gift to one another.

The dance is symbolic to the Ukrainian people because it signifies a woman’s coming of age. My veil was removed by my mother and was replaced with a babushka which basically means that I am old and married now; off the market, taken, UNAVAILABLE! 🙂
The people who came up to dance with me after that were mostly people who are other members of Veselka, parents of people I’ve danced with, or just people who wanted to wish me well:)

Our guests stayed at the reception well into the night. Everyone was dancing, drinking, talking, laughing and having a GREAT time. One of the most hilarious things I heard was that an old friend of mine was having such a good time dancing (and was really REALLY dancing) that had to go home early because he ripped out the seam of this pants!! Now, that’s a good dance party!!! 🙂 haha. People stayed at the reception until about 11pm, which is when Tony and I finally left (we were exhausted….but I still had my shoes on!!:)

We just received an e-mail from Alexandra:
Just wanted to let you know how much fun we’re having looking through all the photos. They seem to get even more beautiful the more I see them. We have had such positive feedback from all of our friends & family….words cannot describe. I think my favourite adjective used was “exquisite”. They really are.

We will try and pick our favourites (aak! 🙂 and get them to you for the album…

Thanks,
Alexandra

This e-mail from a fellow photographer in Georgia just made my day:
This is the best wedding site I have ever been to. I do photography & aspire to become as good as YOU!!! I am curious what type camera you use, how many photographers you have during the wedding, & what is the name of this beautiful music that plays while I get lost in your pictures? Again – AWESOME!!!
I am litterally in awe & teared up the first time I visited your site!!!
